Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display

2 Day Introductory course

This course is open to professionals and parents/carers

Children who have complex communication needs or have only limited speech, in addition to other challenges, often struggle to interact and communicate. This may include children who have physical disabilities, multiple disabilities, sensory processing challenges, limited social interaction skills, and/or a range of cognitive limitations and learning difficulties.

Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD) is a means of selecting and organising symbols so that people with complex communication needs and their communication partners can communicate more easily.  PODD principles seek to support communication at any time and emphasises teaching and learning strategies to enable a person to say what they want to say, when they want to say it and to whom they want to say it to!

The PODD system was designed by Gayle Porter, who is a Speech Therapist with over 30 years hands on experience working with people with complex communication needs. Gayle currently works at the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre in Melbourne, Australia. She also has a private practice working with both children and teenagers with complex communication needs in their schools. She has given courses all over the world and written about AAC, Cerebral Palsy and PODD.

Our presenter for the two days will be Natalie Fitzpatrick.  Natalie is a Teacher and a trained conductor and has worked with children with complex physical, learning and communication needs for over 15years. Natalie has worked closely with Gayle Porter to implement the PODD system in Perth, Australia.  She has completed the week long intensive PODD course and completed the PODD presenter certification process with Gayle.  She is one of the three UK based PODD trainers.
