RACHEL’S FAMILY RAISE £5000
Four-year-old Rachel Collie, of Burnside near Glasgow, has said a heartfelt thank you for the therapy she receives from Bobath Scotland.
Rachel and her twin sister, Louise, handed over a cheque for more than £5000 to the charity – the proceeds from a recent sponsored walk around Strathclyde Park.
The girls’ Auntie, Tricia Reid of Coatbridge, was the driving force behind the fundraising effort by persuading nine relatives and friends to take part.
Rachel – who was born 12 weeks prematurely – has attended Bobath for two six-week block sessions.
Her family are tireless supporters of Bobath Scotland. Dad David regularly provides photographic services to the charity, while mum, Sharon, is a voluntary member of the fundraising team.
DEPUTY FIRST MINISTER MEETS BOBATH SCOTLAND CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Nicola Sturgeon, visited Bobath Scotland’s Glasgow therapy centre in June to meet children and families, and to observe vital therapy sessions.
During the visit, Ms Sturgeon observed two therapy sessions at the Drumchapel centre.
She met six-year-old Thomas Pettigrew, of East Kilbride. He has been attending Bobath Scotland’s children’s cerebral palsy therapy centre for four years with parents Catherine and William and has received seven blocks of therapy.
Ms Sturgeon was also introduced to mum Alana Clemensen, of Bellshill, whose two-year-old son, Brooklyn, has received two blocks of the therapy at the centre in the last year.
STAR TREKKER
Tireless campaigner Jamie Walker, of Rutherglen near Glasgow, has raised more than £10,000 in five years for Bobath Scotland.
Not only did he take part in the Great Wall of China and Peru Inca Trail treks in recent years, he has pledged to sign up for the two Moroccan treks planned for next year.
He is always amongst the cyclists who get under starter’s orders for the annual Bike for Bobath event, and hosts regular tombola stalls. Warehouse manager Jamie also recently helped to organise a bag packing event at his local Asda store, which raised £510.
All at Bobath Scotland raise their hats to Jamie, who has helped to make a real difference to the lives of children with cerebral palsy. Thank you.
DUCHESS DELIGHT AS PATRON VISITS BOBATH
Bobath patron, HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, delighted families, staff and supporters this spring when she visited the Glasgow therapy centre.
The Duchess saw therapy in action before meeting and chatting to guests.
Kayleigh Ptak (7) of Abernethy – who has attended Bobath Scotland since January 2006 – presented the Duchess with a framed collage of colourful hand prints painted by the centre’s children.
In a message to Bobath’s fundraising team following the visit, the Duchess’s lady in waiting, Lucinda Hanbury, wrote: “It was a pleasure to work with you on this visit and just so nice to meet you in the centre. What a wonderful place it is and how marvellous it was to see everyone at Bobath. The beautiful picture given to The Duchess of Gloucester has been much admired by many and will remind us frequently of a very happy visit.”
